Things to do in Colorado

Being born and raised in Colorado I wanted to share all the wonderful things to do in that beautiful part of the country. I came up with more than you can imagine so I condensed my list to 5.

1. Red Rocks-The Red Rocks are exactly what it says. They’re Red and they’re Rocks. But not just any rocks. They are huge and slanted beautifully in the mountains near Morrison, Colorado, which is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Denver or 15 miles west of the city. The reason it is so nice is, it serves as an Amphitheater where you can have a nice meal at their full service restaurant and bar, or pick something up from the concession stand. You can also have a wedding, hold a meeting, and the best thing to do at Red Rocks is go to a concert. The acoustics make the sound incredible at the Amphitheater, and make the concert experience much better than that of a regular music hall. The Amphitheater has been compared to the Ancient Greek Theater at Taormina, Sicily, and stands higher than Niagara Falls.

2. Garden of the Gods-Garden of the Gods is a sandstone formation and has an awesome view of Pikes Peak. You can go on a guided nature walk, go horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and for the lovers, you can get hitched. There wouldn’t be any time for boredom because there is just too much to do. Garden of the Gods is in Colorado Springs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes or 67 miles south of the Mile High City.

3. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo-The Zoo is also located in Colorado Springs and is breathtaking. When you visit, you’ll see large grizzlies, you can take a mountaineer sky ride, and climb their bouldering wall. They have a historic monument which is 1.4 miles away from the zoo entrance that is dedicated to Will Rogers. The Will Rogers shrine was built by Spencer Penrose between 1934 and 1937, and is a beautiful, must see part of Colorado.

4. Ski Resorts-Colorado is known for the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies contain beautiful ski resorts such as Steamboat Springs, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Crested Butte, Vail, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, Echo Mountain, Eldora, Howelsen, Loveland, and Monarch Mountain, just to name a few. There are actually over 20 resorts in the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

5. Sports Fields-Invesco Field at Mile High, (yes the field was rebuilt, and yes it was given a new name, but for us natives we still call it Mile High), Pepsi Center, and Coors Field. In addition to the sports stadiums, Six Flags is located within walking distance of the Pepsi Center.

Things to Do In The Big Apple in Your New York Vacation

Whoever you are and whatever you do, you may want to consider going to New York to spend your vacation. Many people say that New York is definitely a place that is a lot of fun and you too should at least visit it once in your entire life. Going on a New York vacation can be a lot of fun and you will be able to experience a lot of excitement.

Although New York City isn’t really the biggest city in the world, you can be sure that it will be one of the most exciting and also the most interesting cities that you will ever visit. With so much cultural history and a lot of fun-filled things to do, you will never get bored during your stay.

So, here are some of the things that you will be able to do when you visit the Big Apple.

First of all, you can’t really experience what New York is all about it you don’t live like a New Yorker. So, it is highly recommended that you should try staying in a New York vacation rental. Basically, the apartment rentals are homes that are owned by New Yorkers. They put it up for rent on a short term basis for visitors, such as yourself. This is not just an exciting way to stay in New York City but it will surely save you a lot of money as it will be cheaper than staying in a hotel.

After getting comfortably settled in your “new place”, it’s not time to see New York in the eyes of a New Yorker. On top of the list is to visit the Empire State Building. This famous building is known by all people and is world famous. It is more than a quarter of a mile high and it towers over Manhattan. You can go to the top floor where you will be able to enjoy the beautiful view of New York City.

Central Park is also a place that you should visit in New York. Upon visiting this place, you will see that it is really in direct contrast with the rest of the city. It is full of trees and greens that you will think that you already left New York City. Central Park includes a lot of recreational areas, such as a theater, sports facilities, restaurants, entertainment, a zoo, and a lot more.

If you love baseball, then you should definitely visit the Yankee Stadium located in the Bronx. Although you may not be able to see the old historic stadium that Babe Ruth once played, but you will still be able to relive its rich history.

You can also visit Madison Square Garden if you love basketball. This is the home of the New York Knicks, as well as the Rangers. Madison Square Garden is considered to be one of the most famous sports and entertainment arena in the world and if you are truly a sports fan, you definitely must visit it.

If you love partying, then you will love New York City, particularly in the Manhattan area. Here, you will find numerous bars and posh night clubs that will be able to let you party up until the wee hours of the morning.

So, if you are planning to go on a unique vacation, you may want to go to New York and really experience what the Big Apple is all about. You can be sure that once you visit this place, you will surely come back for more.

Cat Ownership: Top 10 Reasons To Have One Of These Things

Cat Ownership: Top 10 Reasons To Have One Of These Things

As with any pet there are some cognizant decisions that must preclude the acquisition of the responsibility of another life form.  Have a cocktail, or several, and be at ease with the irresponsible gesture of adding a cat to your household.  Should you move forward and actually bring one of these creatures into your fold, be assured that the following list will not be exhausted as more behaviors and traits will arise over time.  In the forefront of your mind you should understand that cats are never sold (unless they’re of some exotic breed and upon their demise you intend to use them as part of your eccentric home décor); but are given away—always free.  Is anything “free” in your life that has a value greater than zero?  You should not only refer to this list prior to making such a commitment, but you should retain this list to determine if this pet is still alive; as it is often difficult to determine with cats—as you will discover.

10.)  You enjoy the “up-close-and-personal” view of a cat’s anus to welcome you into the new day.

9.)  You don’t have a dog and you find that scooping litter is somehow enjoyable for you.

8.)  You have a vermin-infested home and you’re too cheap to spend the 49 cents for a handy little trap; and you solemnly believe that the cat will be self-sustaining on wild diet.

7.)  You like the cat-hair-tumbleweeds blowing about your home as it reminds you of all the Westerns you’re akin to watch.  Or, you’re a crafter and use this harvest of loose hair to creatively construct a more desirable pet; and one that is inanimate and will give you far more attention than your live one.

6.)  You also possess a five-year-old boy (not usually considered a pet) and you’re tired of investing your hard-earned dollars on toy trucks, cars, bulldozers which your son finds a way to destroy within a matter of days.  You figure that a cat, which is always free, won’t get broken as often because it has the option of self-mobility; and will therefore last longer.  If not, the replacement is free as well.

5.)  You believe that a long, hard-packed hair-ball that is formed in the precise internal diameter of your cat’s esophagus and large intestine is rather an art form.  Or you believe that, once dried, you can sew this hairball onto the collar of your child’s winter jacket for additional warmth and style.

4.)  You have extremely low self-esteem and you want to keep reinforcing this malaise so you invest bountiful time and energy into a living creature whose full-time occupation will be to ignore you.  You will then find this so fertile to your depression that you’ll go out and get several more cats, because they’re always free, and multiply your dark need.

3.)  You own a struggling restaurant and your meat supplier has you in collection for unpaid bills.  Besides, they’re free.

2.)  You were at odds as to how to spice-up or spruce-up your new over-stuffed living room set or needle-pointed Queen Anne’s chair.  A cat will always know what to do about this indecision; and will usually do this at night so your morning will be full of glee and appreciation.

1.) You have been duped and deceived by various forms of media (movies, calendars, posters, etc.) that a kitten—therefore a cat—is always playful, charming, interesting and exploratory.  There is a troubling metamorphosis that occurs when a kitten evolves into a cat.  The kitten will desire your company and will dutifully entertain you for your attention.  Once the metamorphosis is complete, your only recourse in finding any means of worth in this animal is to get it high: whether you use over-the-counter Catnip or find something more substantial and interesting on the street corner.

I hope that this essay has served you well.

Short Sketches of Best Cat Breeds

Certain types of cats don’t affect human allergies the Russian Blue is one. Originally known as the Archangel Cat or Foreign Blue some believed that they were brought by sailors from the Archangel Isles to England and Northern Europe in the 1860s.Cat Rumor also has the Slavonic Blue as a descendant of the Royal Cat of the Slavonic Czars and as a favored pet of Queen Victoria. Originally known as the Archangel Cat or Foreign Blue some believed that they were brought by sailors from the Archangel Isles to England in the 1860s.

Wile the Russian Blue may at first glance look like a silver grey short hair, they have will a special appearance that is all their own. The Russian Blue cat has a small wedge-shaped head, medium sized snout, straight nose and strong jaws, big pointed ears and big green eyes

.

Although they have been used on a limited basis to create other breeds (such as the Havana Brown) or add type to a breed in creation (the Kneeling), Slavonic Blues themselves are shorthaired, blue cats. Russian Blues should be distinguished from ‘British Blues’ which are not a distinct breed but rather a domestic short hair with a blue coat.

No direct evidence exists to prove this, but the breed’s thick coat gives credence to the theory that they developed in a cold climate, blue shorthairs still exist in Russia today.

Russian Blues are quiet, clean cats who are frolicking and loving companions the breed is a gentle, affectionate cat easily distinguished from other breeds. But beyond appearances, the real pleasure of the this blue breed is its unique personality which sets it apart from other cats and makes it an interesting, entertaining and affectionate companion to its owners and friends.

Persians, with their long flowing coats and open pansy-like faces are the number one breed in popularity, and perhaps the most recognizable. Although many people cannot name more than a few cat breeds, almost all of them know to name the Persian.

Credit for the Persian breed is generally given to Turkey, Iran (formerly Persia), and the neighboring countries.

Longhaired cats were associated with these countries from about the 16th century, and possibly earlier. During that period the first cats of this kind began to arrive in Europe. It is assumed that the long cover arose from a mutation in shorthaired cats that maybe were of Egyptian origin. The colder climates of Turkey and Iran certainly favored such a mutation. The long cover aroused great interest among cat owners and made the cats more valuable.

The Persian is a heavily boned, well-balanced cat with a sweet expression and soft, round lines. Despite their heavy appearance, Persians move great agility; despite their bulk. The Persian also sports a long, flowing cover draped on a compact, chunky, short body referred as cobby supported by short, thick legs. Large round eyes are ordered wide apart in a large round head with small wide- rounded ears contribute to the overall full countenance to the breed. A broad, sweeping brush of a tail as wide as the body completes the picture.

Chocolate and lavender Persians are known the Kashmir in CFF. It is still called by this lineage name in some older cat books. CFF also distinguishes between the Persian and the Pekefaced Persian. A Pekefaced Persian is a Persian with an extreme flat face, like that of a Pekingese dog. Some breeders describe their Persians as doll-faced, which means that they possess a less flat faced appearance than most Persian show cats.

The Persian’s beautiful cover is long and thick, standing away from the body. An immense ruff continues in a deep frill between the cat’s front legs. Proper maintenance of the cover requires a daily run-through with a metal comb to eliminate the potential drawbacks of tangles and hairball. Occasional bathing is required to keep the fur clean, healthy and beautiful. Time and commitment to a daily grooming routine is required of the Persian owners, and will come to enjoy this high quality time with their cats.

Persians are mellow, docile and affectionate. They need affection, notice, and have a natural desire to be played with. They aren’t particularly demanding, but most wish to sit on your lap and be petted every day. Persians can develop a particular attachment to one person in the family, and they tend to want more time and affection from the object of their interest; than from the rest of the household. Persians are good with other pets, and with children. The breed is very adaptable, and usually copes well if changes occur such as additions to the family, new pets or a house move.

Persians don’t like to be left unaccompanied for long periods of time, so if you’re out during the day, it’s better to keep them with another pet for company. Their long fur is very prone to matting, and must be combed on a daily basis. Persians sometimes have issues with watery eyes and breathing problems because of their flat faces. Their faces need washing sporadically. At the same time as their lovely personalities mean they make wonderful pets, they are only suitable for people who have the time to care for their long hair and give them the regular affection that they need.

The Persian is a favorite lineage and formed the basis of hybridizations that resulted in the the Himalayan cat. The early evolution of the Persian cat happened in old Persia. When these cats with a longer, silky coat were brought to Europe by the Romans, the Europeans were hooked.

The Iranian cat has been purposely bred to perpetuate and accentuate the longhair trait.

It was proposed in the 1950′s Himalayans that were not Persian, but a new lineage of longhair. With this philosophy as a basis for the Himalayan, these cats received recognition and were granted registration with CFA. Breeders were required to s exhibit three generations of pure chain color point breeding to be eligible for competition.

The chain of a lineage of this long-haired cat is identical in type to the Persian. The appearance differential in Himalayans is eyes and point coloration, These Himalayans comes for the mating of the Himalayans with the Siamese. In some places Himalayans are called color point Persians. While the chain is considered a lineage separate from their almost twin Persians breed; by The International Cat Association. It is grouped together with other exotic short haired breeds.

Himalayans endeavor to be active, but they like their people time best. The best way to describe color point Persians is to say they are people focused. As with any longhair cat, they require grooming maintenance. The breed should be groomed on a daily basis, and weekly baths are in many catteries. Himalayans have been groomed and bathed since they were young kittens so they are used to frequent grooming. Breeders of the color point Iranian are sometimes criticized for breeding very flat faced cats that can have breathing problems. Responsible breeders pay close attention to the overall beauty of expression no matter how short the nose. It’s possible to create a lineage of beautiful Himalayans with a very short nose that breathes normally. They are not prone to respiratory problems making them an ideal show or companion cats.

The Agora originated in early 1966 near Case Western Reserve University’s campus in the city’s University Circle area. However, within its first year of operation, its owner, impresario Henry LoConti, Sr., could see that the demand for popular entertainment among college-age Clevelanders far outsized his facility.

Therefore, in 1967, The Agora relocated nearer the center of town, to a building near the Cleveland State University campus. Booking local, national and international live music acts, the venue was quickly recognized as a powerful force in driving the growth and acceptance of the popular music scene. I can still recall the thrilling experience of my first Agora concert, urging an encore from The Left Banke (“Just Walk Away, Renee”) in 1968.

Many local and regional pop and rock groups received some of their best and strongest early exposure via The Agora: The James Gang, ZZ Top, The Raspberries, Foghat, The Outlaws, Glass Harp, and Grand Funk Railroad among them. Agency Recording, an in-house recording studio was added to the facility in 1968, and in 1970 a second Agora opened in Columbus, Ohio, near Ohio State University.

Soon The Agora was producing live music broadcasts in concert with several Cleveland radio stations. Often those live concerts became live record releases, or reappeared on national network music shows. Expansion of The Agora concept to other markets progressed throughout the 1970s, with up to 13 facilities eventually operating in cities like Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, New Haven, Hartford and Tampa. Yet another branch, Agora Promotions, staged outdoor music festivals drawing sizable crowds. Syndicated broadcasting of live concerts followed, as did the creation of a jazz program.

After a devastating fire in 1984, The Agora moved to its present site at 5000 Euclid Avenue. The Ballroom provides standing room for up to 500 patrons, while the Theater seats up to 1800, and a bar and café provide refreshment. It is no wonder that, in addition to praise and awards from many quarters, The Agora was voted the premier rock club in the nation by Billboard Magazine.

Things to Take on a Family Hike

When I was a child, my parents often took us hiking along various trails in state and national parks. It’s an activity I still love to this day and one that provides many fond memories of my family. Hiking has helped to promote my fitness and provided me with a wonderful respite from day to day worries as well.

With millions of us being urban dwellers, hiking isn’t always something that all families experience routinely. However, I would certainly encourage them to consider it as a good family activity which has a lot of positive benefits. Nearly anywhere you live, a national or state park, nature preserve, state forest, or recreational area should be able to provide you with a reasonable hiking opportunity. Of course, if you’re new to the process, you’ll want to start off with an easy to moderate trail and one that doesn’t exceed your fitness level, so doing a little research as to the terrain and distance is important. Choosing a day with good weather is also critical. However, I find that hiking in cooler weather is often easiest, as heat, humidity, and insects are not a problem in such conditions.

Of course a bit of planning is essential as well, to assure safety and comfort. This is particularly true when you’re bringing young children along. Personally, I like to take along a small, lightweight backback to stow away the things I might potentially need. This assures the additional items won’t interfere with anything, including the use of both of my hands. If you’ll just be walking an easy 1 mile loop trail, what you take along can be scaled back of course, but this list contains some items to consider for longer hikes.

1. Shoes. Obviously, you’ll have these on your feet, but you might want to give some consideration to the shoes you’re wearing. Kids with flip flops won’t enjoy hiking very much. Clearly stones and twigs will end up between their foot and the flip flop, and they’ll slide. Tennis shoes might be ok, but they need to have some good tread on them, something that won’t slide easily. Many trails can end up crossing creeks or coursing down a leaf covered hillside, so sliding is always a danger. You’ll notice that hiking boots tend to come up to the ankle which provides good support.

2. Dress for the weather. Again, if you’ve researched the weather, you know the temperatures and if there’s any risk of precipitation. It’s best to layer for cooler weather so that you can remove the layers as you or the environment warm up. Jackets with a hood are nice in case there’s any unexpected rain fall. Many people wear shorts when hiking. Personally, I tend to wear long pants. I do this to keep my skin protected from ticks, other insects, small cuts and scrapes, as well as the sun.

3. A map. I find it wise to always take a map of the trail. Yes, even on simple 1 mile loop trails as you never know how well marked the trail may be. Sometimes paths created by animals can get you off course, or perhaps there is an intersecting trail and it’s not marked.  You have to decide the route to take and a map can help you. Certainly GPS devices and compasses can also help guide you and make things much easier if you do become lost.

4. Nourishment. I take water on every hike, no matter what length. It’s also a good idea to take along other nourishment. Granola bars  are common, and as you might suspect, so is trail mix, but you can decide for yourself what you prefer.

5. Protection. Items like sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and bug repellent are potential items for your backpack as well.

6. Medications. If anyone in the family has a regular medication, such as for asthma or allergies, be sure to take it along. Of course, some tissues can be a good thing to have as well.

7. Items in case of injuries. A small first aid kit, or at least some alcohol pads and some bandages might be useful as well.

8. A small camera to capture the look of enthusiastic adventure on your kid’s face as you take off into the wild unknown, is optional.

If you have very young children, you will obviously need a way of carrying them. Just holding them in your arms can be quite difficult if you need your hands free to balance yourself when crossing a creek or clambering over some rocks.  It’s much easier to have them in a harness or back pack that will keep your hands free to use when needed.

Just holding them in your arms can be quite difficult if you need your hands free to balance yourself when crossing a creek or clambering over some rocks.  It’s much easier to have them in a harness or back pack that will keep your hands free to use when needed.

Hiking can be more than just a way to get some exercise, it can also be educational. So where in the world can you go to find the best places to? If you have the money and time here are the top five places in the world that are great for hiking.

According to Lynn Schnaiberg the top five places to explore are Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, Wildkirchli Trail in Switzerland, Havasu Canyon in Arizona, Darien Gap in Panama, and Crow Pass Trail in Alaska. Each has there own beauty and reason why anyone would want to hike there.

No matter the beauty of the place I find there is still no place like home. A lot of people feel they have to go away to have a fun time or spend lots of money. This is not true. Some of my favorite places to hike are at home.

1) Take a long hike around a lake right around the time the sun sets or rises. There is nothing more beautiful than the way the sun glows off the water.

2) If you a country girl like me all you really have to do is go out your back door. The trees in the autumn time are breathtaking. Unless you explored your own back yard you never know what beauty you will find. If you’re a city boy or girl, hop in your car and take a ride. You will eventually find a small town worth exploring.

3) History can be a great way to make things fun. I remember reading this book, titled Mystic Michigan, and in the book it talked about different locations in Michigan that were very mysterious. I got to thinking about how cool that would be to explore some of those things. I have yet to do it wants the water drops in one of our lakes I want to hike the path the Native American’s used a long time ago. Like Michigan history is all around us. Pick up a book on your how state and you may even find someplace special close to home to hike.

Those are my three favorite top places to hike and explore but if you are interested in knowing more about the top places in the world to hike, check out Lynn Schnaiberg’s Iexplore site for the top ten greatest places to hike or the top ten places in the United States.

Things You Must Check When Placing DVD Orders

Some of us are keen on watching movies as a form of relaxation. We often miss their showing in movie houses for one reason or another like traffic, rain, snow or other causes. There are times that we feel under the weather and cannot shake off the feeling of not wanting to leave the house. The best way to while away the time is by watching movies right in the comforts of our home through DVD orders placed online.

We can just sit back and relax while enjoying a bowl of pop corn with a combination of our favorite drinks. Unlike in theaters where we have to wait until the movie is over before relieving ourselves. DVD players can be paused if there is the need to attend to personal matters. Also, DVDs don’t have to be for keeps especially if we were disappointed with the movie. We can simply place our DVD orders to rent them out online and they will be delivered right at our doorsteps.

However, if we truly enjoyed one and consider it as worth watching over again later or at some future time, we can add it to our collection by placing our DVD orders to purchase a copy from the online outlet.

Copies to meet your DVD orders are sometimes hard to find because sellers may have limited stocks available regarding your choice of movie genre. Many sellers maintain only blockbusters and limit their stocks on what are highly saleable like current blockbuster releases. In fact, most customers prefer to rent than buy; hence, there is no reason to keep several copies as stock.

In case you’re interested in placing DVD orders for original copies of “Scream”, “Phantasm”, “Halloween”, “Jeepers Creepers”, “The Thing”, “The Fog”, “The Exorcist” or “Black Christmas”, you have to make a lot of searching. A good way of looking for the original copies of these movies is via the Internet. You can search for them at Amazon.com or at eBay where you can find lots of items for sale, including auction stocks. These store sites are into selling DVDs directly distributed by the movies producers as well as offer copies of slightly used original titles at a lower price. These sites are good online resources in placing hard-to-find DVD orders for buying purposes.

Maintaining a list of DVD movies is also quite an investment. With price ranging from to per item, you have to make sure that your DVD orders for your collection are worth the price. Another important thing is for you to make sure that you are placing online DVD orders at reputable sellers. It is important that you have studied their provisions for return in case of defects.

If possible, place your DVD orders in outlets recommended by people like you who are also fond of watching DVD movies. While you’re at it, these people may have some recommendations for other DVD movies you can rent or purchase.

Things to Consider When Choosing a New Family Pet

Often when thinking of pets, people figure the choice is between a cat or a dog. There are many different kids of pets to choose from and with a little forethought, you can select a pet that is best for your family’s needs. Dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, rodents and birds can all make wonderful additions and each has characteristics that should be considered.

Consider a trip to your nearest animal rescue facility. Adopting a pet is not only a great choice for saving animals from harm and controlling the pet population, it can also be cheaper, and easier to choose an animal. At an Animal Shelter, you have the opportunity to interact with the animal and ask questions prior to adoption. Visit frequently to find an animal that suits your family. The Humane Society or Animal Shelter near you may have dogs, cats, and other pets up for adoption.

If you already have pets, consider the needs of these pets before bringing home another animal. Does your dog enjoy the company of cats without wanting to make an afternoon snack? Would your cat climb the walls, and tear apart the house to get at a bird? Is your animal comfortable around other animals of it’s own species? These are all things to consider before introducing additional pets to your household.

Do you have children? Children and their unique and individual personalities can often help to determine the right kind of pet for your family. Larger dogs usually like to run alot and are very active. Be sure to select a breed that tends to be even-tempered, and have ample room for all to run. Smaller dogs can be easier to take care of. If your children are responsible, or need to learn responsibility, a smaller breed dog or cat might be the ticket. Guinea pigs, rats and hamsters are a good choice for grade-school aged children and can aid in many life lessons. These types of pets are also good if your family is away often. Hamsters and guinea pigs can survive a few days if left properly watered and fed.

How much time do you have to dedicate to the family pet? Some animals require more care and more attention and affection than others. Cats tend to be independent, whereas dogs tend to need constant love. Birds and fish don’t require much interaction, unless you’re planning to go on the road with your talking parrot! Determine how much time and effort you and your children are willing to put into taking care of your new pet.

Taking into consideration all of the above and the affinity of everyone involved, you should be much better equipped to make a decision on which type of pet would be best suited to be the next member of your family.

Things To Watch For When A Car is Overheating

When a car is overheating the are a number of visual signs, ranging from steam pouring from under the hood to a dashboard temperature gauges that have red-lined. The things to look for when a car is overheating should all be directed at finding the root cause, and addressing it appropriately to prevent permanent damage to a vehicle. A car that is overheating can literally be ruined as engine parts warp and seals are blown, and can relegate a car to the junk yard long before it’s time is due. By knowing what to watch for when a car is overheating the preventive actions can be taken that can eliminate the need for costly repairs and dodge larger, more expensive issues.

When a car is overheating it is imperative to pull off the road and turn off the ignition as soon as possible. It is a wise safety practice to allow the car to cool thoroughly before attempting to find the reason for the overheating. Never lift a car hood that has steam spewing out from under it, as a hose may have blown and a severe burn may be quite possible. Similarly, never remove a radiator cap on a hot engine for the same reason. When a car is overheating patience is not only a virtue, but may well prevent a trip to the hospital for a car owner.

After a car that is overheating has sufficiently cooled, first check the level of the cooling system to ensure it is adequately filled. If it is low, simply refilling it with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water may resolve the overheating issue. Another cause when a car is overheating is because their is not enough motor oil to properly lubricate engine parts, which produce excessive friction and heat. This can be fixed with addition of a quart of motor oil of the appropriate type and weight. The third most common cause when a car is overheating is a stuck thermostat, which restricts water flow improperly. Dependent upon the mechanical skills of the car’s driver this is often best left to the services of a trained mechanic because it can be tough to address on the side of the road.

Many car owners have been forced to replace a head on a motor because they were only a mile from their destination and decided to address the problem upon arriving, and drove the distance knowing there was a problem. When a car is overheating remain patient, and a fix won’t turn into the necessity of having to purchase a new car.

Ten Things You Should Know About Pet Snakes

If you are one of the legions of people who have acquired, or are about to obtain a new pet snake, then you are also about to have a rewarding experience. Snakes have a lot to teach us. A properly maintained terrarium can be a work of art – many are prominently displayed in homes – so long as the snake keeper keeps some essential information in mind:

· Be sure you give your snake enough heat – that means enough for the snake, not you. A snake is best kept at warmer, summer temperatures of 85 – 100 degrees F, unless being cooled for hibernation. Temperate zone species may tolerate a 30 degree drop in temperature at night, but tropical species rarely do well with such fluctuations.

· Never, ever use your snake to scare somebody! Many people are afraid of snakes, some pathologically so. Using a snake to scare a person is irresponsible of you, may cause injury to another person, and is traumatic for the snake.

· Be sure to feed your snake an adequate diet at appropriate intervals. Snakes under 3 feet in length should generally be fed prey about the size of an adult mouse once or twice a week. Larger snakes take more or larger prey at less frequent intervals. Truly large snakes may eat only once per year, but these are not snakes for novices.

· Do not handle snakes after feeding, or until they have digested their meals. If a snake is handled too soon after eating, it is often likely to regurgitate the meal, and may refuse to feed for many days afterward.

· Snakes must shed their skins, but they do much better if you do not help them. If the snake has been fed and watered well, it will grow, and the old skin is carefully broken by the snake and shed in one piece. If a snake sheds in patches, it may be dehydrated or have a nutritional disorder.

· Do your homework! Buying a snake is not the same as knowing how to care for it properly. It is your responsibility to learn about your snake and any special needs it will have in captivity. For example, unless you carefully teach your snake otherwise, many have specialized diets: garter snakes eat fish and frogs, hognose snakes eat toads, and corn snakes eat small rodents and eggs.

· Get a snake veterinarian lined up now. Snakes have a slower metabolism than us mammals, so they may manifest symptoms long after contracting an illness. Waiting to find a qualified vet until the snake is ill may be too late.

· Clean the snake’s cage as it becomes dirty – don’t merely wait for Saturday morning. Only use appropriate disinfectants for a snake cage. You may use rubbing alcohol, soap, and specialty products available at your pet shop. Do not use chlorine bleaches or industrial cleansers such as Ajax or Comet, because their residues are often toxic to snakes. Lysol is particularly dangerous.

· Always wash your hands well with soap and water after handling your snake or the cage accessories. Snakes, like most animals, may harbor dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella.

· Okay, now go watch your snake and have some fun!

So that you finally have your corn snake home with you, do you know what kinds of food they need and want? Do you know how to feed your snake right? What types of food you should provide for them to grow healthy and live long? This article about feeding your snake will surely teach readers a lot about how to feed their snakes right. This is a very helpful article.

When feeding corn snake, it is better to feed your pet snake some freeze or thawed mice and rodents. It has been tested and proven that dead mice and rodents are safer for your snake to eat. Live mice and rodents especially if the mice or rodents are bigger than your corn snake will be risky for your snake. Bigger mice and rodents might bite your snake and snake will have no defense against it. So if you want to feed your snake, make sure that the mice and rodents are already dead and then freeze it and thawed it when it is time for your snake’s meals.

Another thing about feeding snake, you should never handle your snakes right after you fed them because this may only lead to regurgitation. Leave them alone for at least 48 hours after feeding your corn snakes. Also see to it that your snake’s cage has a proper temperature to help the food inside them to digest well. Remember that the two common factors that could affect your snakes to lose its appetite are stress and improper caging. It is also not necessary to give your snakes some powdered vitamins and minerals. These are just supplements that most of the time does not really have the right amount of vitamins your corn snake needs.

When feeding your snake, you also must provide clean and fresh water everyday on a shallow water dish place on their tank. This water will use as for drinking and for bathing. Just on case your corn snake defecates on it, immediately throw the filthy water and replace it with new clean one. You must also provide them some pine chips; never give your corn snakes cedar chips because these will certainly harm your corn snakes. By feeding snake right, you will be sure that its going to live long and will have a healthy life with you.

What you feed your snake will surely reflect on their health and how fast they will grow. Another thing to consider when feeding snake is that you must also provide your snake a proper hiding place and even tree limb wherein it can hide, burrow and climb in. Improper tree limb and hiding place will surely stress your corn snake and this will lead it to refuse from eating its meals. By providing your snake all these guidelines regarding feeding snake, your corn snake will be healthy
